"Jay" Truesdale
Funeral services for Louis Lee "Jay" Truesdale, 69, of Camden, a native of Kershaw, were conducted at 3 pm Sunday from Kornegay Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Quaker Cemetery. The Rev. Gerald Harris officiated.
Service as active pallbearers were his nephews, Harry Kay Truesdale, Tommy Brooks, Bernard Mangum, Lloyd McNair, Jr., Harry McNair and Herbert Olin Truesdale. Members of the Leroy Belk Post American Legion served as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Truesdale died Friday, February 23, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital, Charleston.
Born in Kershaw, he was a son of the late Henry Hampton Truesdale and Hattie Jordan Truesdale. He graduated from Kershaw High School where he played football and was active in other sports. He attended the University of South Carolina and was a member of the USC track team. He was a former vice-commander Leroy Belk Post 17 of the American Legion. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Goodale Truesdale; a daughter, Mrs. Robert P. (Rose) Wilkins of Lexington; a son, Louis Lee Truesdale Jr. of Columbia; six grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. W. S. Beckham and Mrs. B.A. Mangum of Rock Hill, Mrs. Lloyd McNair of North Augusta, Mrs. W. H. Clyburn of Kershaw, and Mrs. Joseph Brooks of Sutland, Md.; two brothers, Harry H.Truesdale of Kershaw and William L. (Bill) Truesdale of Orangeburg.
The family suggests that those who wish may make memorials to the University of South Carolina's Athletic Department or the charity of their choice.
