Notes: Rebecca Radcliffe was listed in the census of 1860 as wife of Thomas W. Radcliffe in Columbia, South Carolina. The family was well placed in Columbia society and lived on Pendleton St. at the corner of Assembly, within view of the state capitol building which was shelled by Union troops during the Civil War.

Rebecca's surname derives from LDS pedigree (familysearch.org) submitted by Gregory Allen Rymer,
10 Mount Pleasant Estates Mineral Wells, West Virginia 26150.

Rebecca must have suffered a great deal of heartache during the Civil War, with three sons and her husband in service to the Confederacy. Her son Charlie C. Radcliffe gave a photo album to Maria Louisa "Lula" G. Feaster before the war. Fortunately, both Charlie and the album survived the war, but no photo of Rebecca or her husband was in the album.

Rebecca Radcliffe faced a great deal of tragedy: Eldest son Thomas W. Radcliffe Jr. died in Virginia during the war in 1864; Thomas Sr. died in 1870; and young son Jesse died in 1876.
