There appears to be a wealth of genealogical and historical information in the records of Bethel Baptist Church (formerly Flat Rock) in the Monetta, Saluda Co., SC area, beginning in the early 1800's.
Text: The current site of Bethel Baptist church is not the original site, nor was it originally named 'Bethel". the following informatin was derived from the church records located at Furman University, Greenville, SC, Baptist Historical Collection: Bethel Baptist church (called Flat Rock) 1810-1825, Saluda Co., SC, Organized circa 1810....Member of Bethel Baptist Assn 1818-1885; Ridge Baptist Assn 1886-__. Minutes 1853-1955. The following brief listing had no heading: Cobb Watkins...dismissed; L. Litter (Little??); Benjamin Cato...dead; Butler...dead; Alfred...expelled.........A check of the 1825 Mills Atlas shows that the property where the church now stands was that of Lamkin.
