Notes: | Sarah S. Bullard was a grand-daughter of Benjamin F. Rawls, a prominent man in ante-bellum Columbia, South Carolina society. In 1859 before the outbreak of the Civil War Sarah and her New York-born husband James J. Mackey lived in the same block with the Rawls, "south side Taylor between Sumter and Marion", about 4 blocks from the State capitol building. After the Civil War the Mackey family settled in Grove Station in rural Greenville Co., SC. Mackey's mother-in-law, Mary Rawls Bullard, lived with the family in 1850 and 1870. |
