Young Saine, 84, of Pomaria died March 24, 2005 at J. F. Hawkins Health Care. Born in Pomaria, she was a daughter of the late John Albert and Nettie Amelia Murphy Wicker. After graduating from Newberry College she taught elementary school in Columbia for 37 years. She was an avid cook and gardener who loved to share these talents with family and friends. Her greatest joy in life, however, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a dedicated worker for the American Cancer Society following the death of her teenage daughter, Mary Kay Young. She was twice married, first to the late Howard Young and secondly, to Harold J. Saine. In addition to her husband of Columbia she is survived by a son, John H. (Jane) Young of Greenville; a daughter, Elizabeth Y. (Mark) Christmus of Pomaria; sister, Mary Lou (C.A.) Cameron of Prosperity; grandchildren, Nathan Christmus and Sarah Christmus both of Columbia, Katie Y. and Greg Koch of Greenville and Josh Young of Greenville; three step-children and their families and a devoted caregiver, Denise Trapp. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Parish Building immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, c/o John T. Kinard, 2208 New Hope Road, Pomaria, SC 29126.
