Notes: Julia C. Feaster appears in two portraits in the Civil War era photo album of Maria Louisa "Lula" G. Feaster. Marginal notes written in the album identify her: "Julia Feaster, gg Uncle Jacob Norris Feaster's daughter - - half sister of Mary Boozer on opposite page". Mary Boozer and her mother had scandalized the family as apparent Yankee sympathizers.

Julia's father, Jacob Norris Feaster had two daughters named Julia, but only the first Julia, by his first wife Mrs. Amelia Boozer, was a half-sister of Mary Boozer. The earlier portrait of Julia Feaster is a silver albumin carte de visite made by the Jeremiah Gurney (1812-1886) studio at 5th Ave. and 16th St. in New York City. This was likely produced after the mid 1860's when the studio moved from its original location on Broadway (see www.rev.net/~hmcmanus/art.htm), and Julia appears to be in her early to mid teens. Her jewelry resembles that worn by Mary Boozer in her portrait. The second portrait of Julia Feaster is a tintype showing a radiant young woman.

Julia was living in La Grange (Titusville), Florida with her father and brother Jacob Jr., and the inscription on her carte de visite is to her Aunt Julia - - most likely Julia Feaster Coleman who lived nearby and provided a refined and stimulating environment for her extended family.
