Notes: | James Russell Milling was described by his youngest half-brother Samuel Thomas Clowney (pseudonym, Sam T. Colin) in a 1939 WPA Federal Writers Project interview: "My oldest brother, James R., was a Confederate soldier. He died of dysentery in the War of Secession." James Russell's sacrifice to the Confederacy at age 18 was later honored in the names of several children in the extended Clowney family. |

4 | Title: Tombstone Note: Tombstone was broken in 4 places, has been restored, reset in cement. Stone was beautifully carved with bas-relief flowering wreath encircling a cross and two carved clasped hands, one pointing down. Buds with emerging leaves flank the surname Milling and date of death. Cement used for repairs on base obscures last line of verse. James Russell Milling is buried in the same area of cemetery near Susannah Elizabeth Yongue who married 1st R.M.Milling and 2nd Moses Clowney. Have photo 0954, Oct 2002.
