Notes: | Robert Cheyne Clowney, his father John Clowney, mother and 5 brothers emigrated from County Down, Ireland to the United States, arriving about Dec 1838. The name of the mother of Robert Cheyne Clowney has been reported as Anna Boyd Cheyne, but by 1850 at age 11 he and his brothers were living with "Nancy" Clowney, age 48. Religion was very important to this family. Presbyterianism has its roots in Scotland. Both the Associate and Reformed branches of the Presbyterian church migrated with the Scots to Northern Ireland and then to America with the Scots-Irish before the Revolutionary War. His lovely home, which he bought from his father-in-law, Samuel Brice who moved to Alabama burned a few years after Capt. Clowney's death. |
