Source: Lula Feaster Album Research: John G. Wolling, Sr. (1852-1931) married Lula Feaster on Thanksgiving Day, 1872. They lived together over 58 years and raised at least 8 children to adulthood in the area of Shelton in western Fairfield Co., South Carolina. The second label for this photo was written by a daughter of J.G. Wolling's third child, Emmie Louise. J.G. Wolling was born in Marion Co., Florida. Unlike his elder brother who traveled widely as a Methodist missionary, J.G. settled down in Fairfield Co., SC after the Civil War. By 1880 he was a farmer and headed a household in Township 1 with Lula, their 6 children, his father James M. Wolling and unmarried sister Frances (1). He owned a grocery business and passed that mercantile spirit to his eldest son, J.G. Wolling, Jr. who continued the family business into the 1920's in the little railroad town of Shelton in western Fairfield Co. The family businesses collapsed along with the nation's economy in the 1920's. John G. Wolling died just 6 months before his wife Lula in 1931 (2). Shelton is now a ghost town, and western Fairfield Co. is part of Sumter National Forest. Sources:
