Notes: | The name of John Ulrich (Ulrick) Schmidt was anglicized to Smith in family records and some public documents. John Ulrich Smith arrived in Charleston, South Carolina, on 2 October 1752 aboard the Rowand, with an unnamed wife and two children (Barbara, 3, and Johannes, 2). According to records formerly available online from the Dutch Fork Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society: "The cemetery of Matthias Wessinger, with wife and six children, is under Lake Murray (Option No. 529 containing his cemetery, as well as an Indian cemetery - Lake Murray Records). This land is located on the 200 acre land grant of 1758 to John Ulrick Smith. In 1787, Matthias Wessinger was a petitioner for incorporation of Bethel Church." |
