Two photographs of John Geiger (Jack) Rawls with his beloved violin.
Both photographs were produced by Wearn & Hix, however the 1862 photo has the studio name handwritten on the back, while the 1868 photo has a printed back. Perhaps during the war the studio could not obtain printed paper, and had to use unprinted stock.
