During the Civil War, Dr. McClanahan served in the 2nd SC Cavalry Regiment - Co. K, rising from Corporal to Sergeant during the conflict. He was a physician in Oconee Co., South Carolina after the war. He married Mary Evelyn Verner (1845-1912).

Descendants of Dr. J. M. McClanahan's sister, Annette G. McClanahan and her husband Nathan Andrew Feaster carry names that recall various ancestral branches of the McClanahan and Verner famlies.

Westminster.
Drive 2.8 miles south on Highway 24 until you come to South Retreat Rd.
Turn right and drive 2.0 miles west.
Church is on the right side of road, located on a hill.

Read an old posting regarding McClanahan/Verner. Buried at Retreat Presbyterian Church, Oconee Co, SC are Dr. J.M. McClanahan b. 18 Jan 1840, d. 14 Mar 1907 C.S.A. and Mary E. Verner, w/o J.M. McClanahan........
I recently attended a homecoming at that church and do have some photos. Would like to exchange info regarding this line as well as your Crawfords.
