Notes: Harriet "Hattie" Harrison Feaster was pictured as a child in the Civil War era photo album of her elder half-sister, "Lula" Feaster. A hand-written note in the album indicates Hattie's relationship to Lula. The inscription "Mrs. Hattie Feaster Davis" on the reverse of the image gives the surname of Hattie's (second) husband.

Hattie H. Feaster was the daughter of Annette McClanahan, whose extended family had a long history and extensive landholdings in Greenville, South Carolina. Hattie's father, Nathan Andrew Feaster, died during the Civil War at Sharpsburg when Hattie was very young. Ederington's "History of Fairfield County, South Carolina" mentions this family: "This third wife [of Nathan Andrew Feaster] was a Miss McClanahan of Greenville County. There are two children by this marriage now living in Greenville, a son and a daughter."

Hattie's given and middle names honor the name of her maternal grandmother, Harriet (nee Harrison) McClanahan.

The name of Hattie's first husband, Francis Albert Martin, was remembered in the name of Hattie's nephew "Albert Martin Feaster, son of Hattie's brother Samuel Feaster.
