Clayton and his family took refuge in Feasterville during the Civil War when his parents sought refuge among Universalist friends, after their home in Mississippi had been burned. Source: e-mail message 5 Jan 2003 from Nancy Jo Smith <najose@earthlink.net>. Virgil P. Clayton, was a serious suitor of Maria Louisa Georgiana "Lula" Feaster in the years before she married John G. Wolling in 1872. Virgil Clayton became a physician. Several children in the Feaster, Coleman, and other Feasterville families in the late 1800's were named in honor of Virgil Clayton.
