Notes: James A. (Jim) Threatt was a son of John Wesley and Deanie Threatt of Chesterfield Co., South Carolina. His information is provided to facilitate communication among the Threatt, Carnes, and other family researchers trying to link east Texas families with their South Carolina roots.

Jim Threatt was about 3 years old when his father, John Wesley Threatt died in 1880. J.F. Myers (husband of Jim's elder sister, Sallie Threatt) was named guardian of J.W., J.A., and Laura Threatt.
H.D. Tiller (probate judge) was named guardian of Janie Threatt (packet #437, settled 1892). The records are listed in the Court of Probate, Chesterfield Co., South Carolina, and are available through the SC State Archives, Columbia, SC.

Last Rites Read for Mr. Threatt

J. A. Threatt died suddenly Saturday evening at 6:20 O'clock at his home after having returned Saturday from a vacation trip to South Carolina.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First Baptist Church with Rev. M. E. McGlamery and Rev. Harold Threatt conducting the services.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Penn of Gilmer; four sons: J. C. Threatt of Wills Point, Harmon Threatt of Grand Prairie, LeRoy Threatt and Durwood Threatt of Dallas, three sisters: Mrs. Laura Carnes of Wills Point, Mrs. Katherine Carnes of Lancaster, S. C. and Sally Myers of Royce City; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral Rites For J. A. Threatt Are Conducted Here June 15

J. A. Threatt passed away at his home in Wills Point at 6:15 p. m. Sunday, June 14, after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Threatt had returned from a trip to South Carolina on Saturday.

He was born May 7, 1877, in Lancaster, S. C., the son of John and Margie Dean Threatt. Mr. and Mrs. Threatt came to Wills Point in 1903. For many years he was engaged in farming and stock raising. In 1920 he entered the grocery business and remained in this business for 20 years.

In 1939 Mr. Threatt went out of the grocery business and moved to his farm in Cedar Grove community. He retired in 1947 and moved back to town. Mr. and Mrs. Threatt celebrated their golden anniversary January 31, 1948. Mrs. Threatt passed away June 17, 1952.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 15, at 4 o'clock at the First Baptist Church with Rev. M. E. McGlamery, former pastor, and Rev. Harold Threatt conducting the service.

Pallbearers were W. H. Wingo, Jr., Sam Lester, George Neill, J. Leddy Johnson, T. L. Harris, Jess Glidden, Jr., and E. H. White.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Penn of Gilmer, four sons, J.C. Threatt of Wills Point, Harmon Threatt of Grand Prairie, LeRoy and Durwood Threatt of Dallas; three sisters, Mrs.Laura Carnes of Wills Point, Mrs. Catherine Carnes of Lancaster, S. C., and Mrs. Sally Myers of Royce City; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Out-of-town guests attending the services were Mrs. John Wall, Mrs. George Fazakerley, Mrs. Bill Mullins, Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Henderson, A. D. McPhail, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Myers, F. P. Mundy, Mr amd Mrs. Connie Hair and Mr. and Mrs. Gilliard Hair, Dallas.

Others were Tom Long, Arlington, Mrs. Winnie Raines and Mrs. Don Raines, Garland; Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Presley and family of Longview; Mrs. J. M. Shepherd, Mrs. Durwin Robinson, Mrs. C. E. Florence, Mrs. James Weeden, Miss Dee Stephens and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Strop of Gilmer; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Burch of Athens; Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Miller, Mrs. Adele Monk, Mrs. Jim Jones, and Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Cox of Terrell; Mr. and Mrs. Scott Leinart and daughter, Mrs. Lola Wells and Dewey Myers, Royce City; Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Pickens of Edgewood; Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Williams and Robbie of Grand Saline.
