Historical Marker is located south of W.Columbia, SC, near the line between Calhoun-Lexington county line, on the Calhoun side, a quarter of a mile west of U.S. Hwy. 176 on a county road halfway between Geiger's store and the county line. (The marker may be inside Kodak grounds, per into on internet in 2001).

Text:
The Geiger's (Gygers) arrived in Charleston, Feb. 1, 1737, and settled in the Congarees.
Herman Geiger became an Indian Trader, and gave assistance when needed to the governor of the colony in meetings with the Indians.
He died in 1751, just how and where is not known. His trade with the Indians over wild country, carried him through many perilous adventures as did the trading of other pioneers.

Herman Geiger was a licensed Indian agent who died away from home in 1851. He was apparently not buried in the family plots in South Carolina.

Will proved before his Excy the Governor the 6th Septem'r 1751(?) & at the same time the Exris and John Gollman Excr qualified.
Missing parts of this will destroyed in original will book.
Recorded in Will Book 1747052, pg. 450 (COPY) 450. (Page numbers 537-538 are hand-written at top of typed transcription in new will book).
