Notes: Full name was Benjamin Franklin Rawls, and he may have been the "first Post Master of Columbia, SC" per notes in Lula Feaster Photo Album on picture of Dr. Thomas Rawls and Drucilla Feaster Rawls. His home was listed in 1859 as "House south side Taylor between Sumter and Marion", which was 3 blocks from the current Post Office .

This is believed to be the same Benjamin Rawls who in 1828, along with other very prominent citizens of Columbia, SC, signed a "Petition* for Renewal of Charter of 1825 for Bridge over Broad River at McGowan Ferry".

This may be the same Benj Rawls who in 1838 signed a petition** in favor of James Paterson, a free man of color of Richland District (Columbia, South Carolina), to the South Carolina Assembly, asking permission to set free his wife Sarah and his two children George and Mary. The SC Assembly denied the petition. The first signatory was William M. Kennedy, possibly Rev. Kennedy (1783-1840) a prominent Methodist minister who is buried in Washington St. Methodist Cemetery in Columbia, SC.

Upon the death of his wife in December, 1856, Benjamin Rawls lived on Camden Street in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, where friends were invited for her funeral service. By 1859, various Rawls lived on Taylor St. between Sumter and Marion.
